PROBLEM STATEMENT

When walking through your neighborhood, it is not uncommon to not know anything about the history of the buildings. There is no easy way to go about learning about it and as more and more people move into new neighborhoods and build new buildings, we are losing this historical backbone of towns.

SOLUTION

  • Create an experience that is easy and intuitive to learn about the history of buildings around you.

  • Allow for users to plug in directly to their community by giving them written, and visual examples of the history.

While working in the role of android application developer, this project included a UI designer, and we worked towards a 6 week timeline to push out a working concept prototype version.

INFORMATION ARCHITECTURE

With easy navigation the user as the main focus, we fleshed out the information architecture for the app knowing only a portion would be able to be fully fleshed out. This included the core of the app - the map, pins and read more sections.

HIGH FIDELITY

After receiving the high-fidelity mockups from the UI designer, the goal became to recreate the design to a pixel perfect level on top of the backend development that had already been going on. This included creation of an SQL database for storing the information for all of the locations and images, having multiple fragments on the main home screen including a Google Maps API instance. Everything was called from the database upon clicking the "read more" button on the dialogue fragment that appeared.
